Hi there!

Even though it’s officially spooky season, we are about to embark on a crochet journey that will warm your heart. In this blog post, we’re setting our sights on a delightful small crochet pouch, adorned with a heart symbol created by colour changing. This pouch utilises the skill of tapestry crochet worked in the round, perfect for those who are to just starting out and ready to improve their crochet game.

This small pouch can come in very handy. You can store your wireless earbud case in here and secure it to your bag strap, it can hold some lip balm and your travel card. The possibilities are up to you!

Heart Pouch

Materials

  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Medium weight yarn in two colours (this pattern was created using Four Seasons Spotsaver by Spotlight)
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations

  • Ch = Chain
  • Sl st = Slip stitch
  • SC = Single Crochet
  • C1 = Colour 1
  • C2 = Colour 2
  • Sk = Skip

Pattern Notes

  • This pattern uses US crochet terminology.
  • The number in brackets at the end of the round is how many stitches you should have completed.
  • This pattern is worked in the round.
  • To end each round, sl st into the first st of the round.
  • To begin each round, ch 1 and place the first stitch in the same space as the ch 1.
  • Following this pattern using the recommended hook and yarn size will result in a finished item approximately 10cm x 9cm.

Instructions

Round 1: Ch 17, and starting from the second ch from your hook, 15 SC, 1 SC in the next ch. Turn your work and 1 SC in the same ch. 16 SC. Sl st into your first st. (33)

You will now be working in the round.

Round 2: 33 SC (33)
Round 3: 33 SC (33)
Round 4: 33 SC (33)

Rounds 5-10 involve frequent colour changes. C1 will refer to the primary colour of your project, while C2 will refer to the colour you use for the heart.

Round 5: C1 – 25 SC, C2 – 1 SC, C1 – 7 SC (33)
Round 6: C1 – 24 SC, C2 – 3 SC, C1 – 6 SC (33)
Round 7: C1 – 23 SC. C2 – 5 SC, C1 – 5 SC (33)
Round 8: C1 – 22 SC, C2 – 7 SC, C1 – 4 SC (33)
Round 9: C1 – 22 SC, C2 – 3 SC, C1 – 1 SC, C2 – 3 SC, C1 – 4 SC (33)
Round 10: C1 – 23 SC, C2 – 1 SC, C1 – 3 SC, C2 – 1 SC, C1 – 5 SC
Round 11: 33 SC (33)
Round 12: 33 SC (33)
Round 13: 25 SC, ch 1, sk 1, 7 SC (33)
Round 14: 10 SC, ch 60, sl st into 10th SC, 23 SC (33)

Finish off leaving a tail to weave in. To close the pouch, feed the chain through the small hole and secure.
